About this series...

In FreeBody Therapeutics for the Lower Body, students are taught breathing practices scientifically proven to reduce stress and tension in the nervous system, creating more calm and ease through the whole Self.  Once the nervous system is softened, we will do some simple movement to open the joints of the lower body: low back, hips, knees, ankles, and feet.  Students will be led through simple strengthening practices targeting weak areas and helping to restore balance to the muscles.  After the tissues are warmed, we used balls and foam rollers, mostly RAD tools, to free the connective tissues and release tension in the muscles.  Cat is a Trigger Point Therapist and has worked with tens of thousands of clients and students.  One of her specialties is knowing where in the muscles tension tends to gather and what symptoms those tense knots cause.  With this in mind, we can target the places that are specifically causing your pain or restriction.  

Simple yogic based stretching is guided after the therapeutic rolling (Self Myofascial Release) to help retrain the tissues to adjust to their new, longer and freer state. 

Class ends in savasana which may include short guided meditations and Cat playing her harmonium and singing to you.

Series limited to 12 participants

My classroom is small on purpose.  I want each student to bring me their concerns and be able to address them for each and every person in the room.  During the first meeting of the class, we gather together so I can take notes on where your issue is, what pain or problem it's causing for you, and then I can create the series based on that.  Some people come with a lower back injury.  Some with a hip thing.  Some with knee issues.  Some of my students keep coming even after their major issue has cleared so that they can stay in optimum health in their bodies.  

These series always sell out.  I encourage you to register early and reserve your spot.

No drop-ins will be allowed except in the unusual circumstance that there is room in the class.

About Cat Matlock

  Cat Matlock is the founder, lead therapist, and instructor at FreeBody Trigger Point Massage Clinic and Training Center in Asheville, NC.  Since 1993, she has continuously studied the body and mind (and heart), developing her methods of addressing dysfunction, injury, and chronic pain.  Her work is rooted in Trigger Point Therapy and a strong belief in the essential practice of working with the nervous system to gain access to the muscles and connective tissues.  

  Cat is also a Trauma Informed Yoga Therapist™, an instructor of the Overcoming Anxiety™ series, and a longtime practitioner of yoga and meditation.  As a 500hr EYT with Yoga Alliance, she is a guest instructor in yoga teacher trainings, guiding therapeutic yoga and foam rolling, anatomy, and meditation courses.   Cat is an instructor for Yoga International and created a  YouTube channel  with free Self MyoFascial Release (SFMR)videos.  

  She began instructing yoga in 2001 and massage therapy in 2006.  In 2012, Cat started offering public SMFR classes with the added benefit of precise trigger point location and release.  Cat expertly weaves her knowledge of the nervous system and vagal tone (essentially, being able to handle difficult things with more ease) with her anatomical knowledge and precise trigger point skills into every class she teaches.
